Verein zur Förderung der Senologie: Supporting and consulting women with breast cancers

The goal of the senology-association is to improve the treatment of breast cancer. This includes the further development of technologies, science and treatment concepts.

The association was founded in 1993 in Düsseldorf, Germany and today has more than 600 members. The main project is “Zebra” – a counselling center. It was founded in 2001 by physicians, patients, and relatives and is one of the largest outreach point-of-contact centers in Germany providing information, counselling and help. The independent center offers personal sessions with professional support to more than 2,000 women a year. Physicians, psychologists, medical psychotherapists and women who have experienced breast cancer themselves are involved in providing support that includes:

• Fostering an understanding of breast cancer and the necessary treatment steps in order to become healthy
• Formulating questions to ask physicians
• Translating difficult facts from the field of medical therapies into real-life terms
• Overcoming emotional and social distress
• Imparting the latest insights about the disease and its treatment

All this is provided in a calm and tranquil atmosphere. Each consultation is patient-centered and free of charge.
